Aussie Entertainer Rolf Harris Vancouver Town Song Grinded Down Mic at PNE 2010
Australian funny man and TV entertainer has a fondness for Vancouver where he came to by mistake in 1961. Since then he has returned again and again to this westcoast Canadian city. Harris loved Vancouver so much that he even wrote a song about it as an ode to the city. Harris is back again on Aug 26, 2010 when he came to entertain at the PNE 2010 centennial celebration to add to the 100 Years of Fun. As Dal Richards was conducting his orchestra, Harris sang an updated version of Vancouver Town to include current events and politicians such as the unpopular HST and Mayor Gregor Robertson while some older favorites like Jimmy Pattison, Grace McCarthy were retained.
The BC Lions was down under and he didn’t mean Australia. The Canucks and Stanley Cup made the list. English Bay was where he felt at home. First Nations and native affairs was held dear to him like his sympathy for his homeland aboriginals. Heritage buildings, Skytrain, SeaBus and Canada Line all form a colorful setting for the city. Harris’s Aussie humor was so hilarious that he even grinded down the microphone. No kiddin’.
